My Partner and I spent a wonderful two nights at Periyar River Lodge. From the minute we met Luigi at the airport, until our final morning, we were treated like absolute royalty. Luigi and Eldhose went above and beyond to meet our every need. Even though we had some inclement weather, the two of them made sure that we were comfortable and enjoying ourselves. The food prepared by Eldhose’ wife Lissy was delicious and plentiful, and ranked among the best we have eaten in India. The hospitality that we experienced here has been unmatched. This is a serene and peaceful place, unspoilt and offering the chance to unwind from the rush and bustle of today’s world. The view of the river from the verandah is enchanting, watching the cows swim across and the fishermen checking their nets. We have been thoroughly looked after by Luigi and Eldhose, taking us out on a boat trip and organising a tuk-tuk to take us to the bird sanctuary. Luigi even came with us on the bus to the village and assisted ( translated) with our shopping, as well as offering us all kinds of insights into village life. And for the food, brilliant! Our special thanks to Lissie for the huge variety of delicious food she created. The consistent high quality was extraordinary and we did our best to eat our way through the menu in 3 days. We have never stayed anywhere as special as this, or been treated to such personal service. We’ll be recommending this place to our friends.

Lovely two days, perfectly managed by Luigi with Eldhose and enchanted by Lissy’s exquisite cooking. Periyar river Lodge is a place of exception. We have had a fantastic three days at Periyar River Lodge. Our hosts, Luigi and Eldhose have been extremely kind and have gone out of their way to ensure we enjoyed our stay at the lodge. This place is a gem in Kerala. From the stunning view from the porch to the crazy variety of birds we have spotted, we had enjoyed every last minute! We have never seen so many birds - the streets of Yorkshire or our current home in Dubai does not even come close! Our highlights are being within touching distance of two frogmouths, and elephant hunting with Luigi and Eldhose. If you have just arrived, please ask Luigi to take you on the evening boat trip. A special thank you to Lissy who has cooked us the most amazing meals during our stay, the fish-moillee is a must! Make sure you pack home fitting trousers! Thank you for such a memorable stay!! Like everybody else, we had the most wonderful time here enjoying the utter peace and tranquility (Shattered regularly by our Toddler who is having huge fun) and the wonderful hospitality of our extremely kind hosts. We have eaten our body-weight in delicious food, been swimming in the clear water, been on two brilliant boat trips, seen the swimming cows and enjoyed the most peaceful, nights’ sleep. We’ve leapfrogged past the three previous volumes of unstinting praise for Periyar River Lodge that is bursting (not unlike the feeling after yet another spectacular meal from Lissie). After two hectic days in Kochi, sampling the energy, vibrancy and grittiness of Urban Kerala, the contrast could not be greater here. Tranquility and the opportunity to get up close to nature, especially in the Thattekkadu Bird sanctuary with the excellent guide Gireesh. Don’t miss any of the opportunities described by others (and the cows are crossing the river as I write this), and just sitting out on the terrace and hearing the sounds of the river and forest is to experience a bit of paradise. I liked riding the boats and I liked the food. Periyar River Lodge is the best. I had a great time jumping out of trees into the water with the local boys and also just relaxing and drinking tea. Relaxing three days spent here. The hospitality was top notch – really felt taken care of. Enjoyed the serenity of the boat rides seeing the wildlife.
